St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre August 24, 1572

A friend sent me a note reminding me of an important date in Protestant history, August 24, 1572.  That day marked the beginning of a massive persecution in France directed toward the Protestant Church which was mostly of the reformed faith (Huguenots).

History.com provides a helpful summary of the persecution.

Roman Catholics also have their own account.

Surprisingly, Wikipedia, provides a well-written article with lots of links and historical information.

What is certain is that 3,000 were murdered in Paris and untold thousands across the country (some put those numbers at 3,000 - 4,000, others argue for as many as 100,000.  No one knows for sure.).
