This last weekend our church hosted our regional body, The Great Lakes Presbytery, for its first stated meeting of 2008. Below is the official thanks from the presbytery...
"The Great Lakes Presbytery wishes to express its praise to God and thanks to Pastor David Sarafolean and the members of Christ Covenant Church in Midland, Michigan for the warm welcome that we received for our March 2008 stated meeting of the Presbytery. We appreciate the carefulness and thoroughness of your preparations and care for our physical needs in order to sustain us in our efforts to do the work of the church of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. We are delighted with you in regard to the facility that God has provided for you and pray for God's blessing in your efforts to proclaim the Gospel to the people of Midland and the surrounding area. We ask you to present this to the congregation at a time and in a manner you deem appropriate."
This is high praise given the skepticism we initially received when we first proposed starting this church in the spring of 2003. Some thought it was impossible to start a church on the ashes of one that had closed. Others thought that we were merely 'reconstituting' the previous failed work. Other were concerned that it wouldn't get off the ground because I did not have the official imprimatur of the denomination as a church-planter. But God had other plans and we rejoice at His faithfulness.
