Midland nearly 'dream town'

Please indulge me and allow a bit of bragging about our home town.

A recent survey of 'micropolitan' cities in our country put Midland, Michigan at the number 11 place out of 140 similar communities around the country.

"Bizjournals ranked Midland No. 11 among 140 small towns that offer the best quality of life without metropolitan hassles. Bizjournals is the online division of American City Business Journals, a company that owns more than 40 business newspapers as well as sports publications including the Sporting News. Bizjournals defined a "micropolitan" area as having a central community of 10,000 to 50,000 residents, plus the surrounding countryside. In effect, they're small-scale metropolitan areas." You can read a summary of that article here.

We've been here for 10 years and enjoy it a lot. After living in several states and multiple metropolitan areas I really don't miss big cities. I'm reminded of that fact every time I drive to metro Detroit or through Chicago on our way to visit family. Sure, big cities offer lots of trendy restaurants, funky music, etc. But those things are not beyond our reach for they only require a bit of planning and a tank of gas.
