The most broken vow of all

Over at Reformation21 blog Dr. Carl Trueman writes...

What is the most broken vow in the church? The wedding vow? Divorce rates among Christians are high, but rates of breach of this vow are probably higher still. Ministerial vows to preach the gospel? Conservatives in mainline denominations might point to those who are ministers and who deny key tenets of the faith from their pulpits week by week, though, ironically, such may not be in breach of vow if said vows do not explicitly bind them to uphold said tenets. That's the dilemma faced by many in mixed churches today. Baptism vows, to raise children in the fear and nurture of the Lord? Doubtless there is much delinquency here. Perhaps it is this one.

Ever following the example set by Luther and Calvin, neither of whom ever submitted to much of anyone

Anonymous,

Whom are you following? To whom (or what) do you submit? By the way what is your name?

Hmmm...I've always considered my "most broken vow" in the church as being my failure to completely follow Christ.

Jeannette,

But you repent of that broken vow on a regular basis, thus renewing it. That is not true of those who break membership vows -- they choose to ignore Christ's current reign as a king as being done through the officers of the visible church (see WLC 'how Christ executes the office of king). They take vows to submit to that oversight but treat it lightly when things don't go their way.
